Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about image conversion.

Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. All conversions happen entirely in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. Your images are never transmitted to any server. This makes the tool both fast and completely private.
Why does PNG to JPG sometimes turn transparent areas black?
JPG does not support transparency. When a tool draws a transparent PNG onto a canvas without filling the background first, the transparent pixels become black. Our tool explicitly fills the canvas with white before drawing, so you always get a clean white background.
What is WebP and why should I use it?
WebP is a modern image format developed by Google that provides 25–34% better compression than JPEG at equivalent quality. It's ideal for web images where reducing file size improves page load speed. All major browsers support WebP today.
What is AVIF and is it better than WebP?
AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) is the newest image format, offering even better compression than WebP — typically 20–50% smaller at the same quality. It supports HDR, wide colour gamuts, and lossless compression. Browser support is growing rapidly (Chrome 85+, Firefox 93+, Edge 121+, Safari 16+).
What quality setting should I use for JPG/WebP?
For most use cases, 85–92% quality is ideal — it preserves excellent visual quality while significantly reducing file size compared to 100%. For web thumbnails or social media, 75–80% is usually fine. For printing or archival, use 95–100%.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no hard limit enforced by our tool — it depends on your device's RAM. Very large images (above 30–50 MB) may slow down or fail on low-memory devices. For best results, keep individual files under 20 MB.
Can I convert multiple images at once?
Yes! All converters support batch conversion. Drop or select multiple files and they will all be converted in one click. You can then download each individually or use the "Download All as ZIP" button.
